Incidentally, Mont Vesuvius has been the only active volcano in Europe.

Many who visit Naples find it somewhat polluted but this they say does not take away from its charm. There is plenty to see and enjoy and you will be glad you took the time to see it all. Naples also boasts of a city of the Chaos! In its old district, traffic rules do not exist. Of course there are no sidewalks because of narrow and dark streets. At places there are no traffic signs or traffic lights either. True, driving there will be fun. It reminds some old historic towns of third world countries like India or Pakistan or in Africa. Italy - Naples and Sorrento

Italy is really two countries in one with the wealthy, historic north dominating. To get a taste of the south, Naples and Sorrento are your destinations.

Naples

If ever there was a city with a reputation, it is Naples. Dirty, nasty, crime infested and fanatical are all words thrown around when describing. In this case, the descriptions are true and it is GREAT! The place is a madhouse and colorful beyond description. Crime is a problem, but you will be fine if you use common sense.

Naples is all about “real.” You will not get that odd touristy sensation you find in the cities to the north. Naples is about living now, now in the past. The people can be gruff, but are also a heck of lot more colorful than you will find elsewhere. If you get in trouble, just bring up the subject of football (soccer) and you’ll suddenly have friends for life.

The best way to experience Naples is just to explore it. The action is on the street, not in museums. If you’re hankering for picture opportunities, the glass dome over the Galleria Umberto I is a good spot. You can also climb above the city to take scenic pictures of the coast and madness of Naples.

If you are really pining for a tourist fix, Pompeii and the looming Mount Vesuvius are close by. Pompeii, of course, was buried in a Mount Vesuvius explosion, literally freezing everything in place. Ah, you already know the story.

Sorrento

If Naples overwhelms you, head around the bay to Sorrento. Sorrento is similar to Naples with one notable exception. It is all about the tourist and making them comfortable. Frankly, it is hard to see how Naples and Sorrento can co-exist, but they do. In Sorrento, you can stay at ancient resorts where service is the name of the game. The beaches aren’t so hot, but you can rent jet skis and such to invoke your inner tourist.

Southern Italy often gets a bad rap as a rough place riddled with crime. To some extent it is true, but seeing Italy without the gloss of the north is worth it.

Why You Should Spend Your Holiday In Rimini, Italy

Rimini still definitely is a great place to spend your vacation. This town located in the North-East coast of Italy is probably the most equipped vacation resort of the entire European Union. It features more than 300 hotels and they all get packed during the summer period. Indeed, a small town of 130,000 residents turns into a two-million holiday capital which has no other comparison. To get the idea, it is just enough typing "Rimini" on Google Earth to see miles and miles of fully-equipped beaches. But the type of people who choose having a vacation in Rimini have slightly changed throughout the years.

Since the first years as a tourism capital in the 1960s, Rimini and the little town of Riccione have been considered the center points of transgression. For example, Viale Ceccarini, the fashion walkway of the region, was the place where the best shops were located, the most important celebrities and fashion icons of Italy and other European countries were easy to find and drag queen shows were frequent. Here there was one of the greatest gay communities of the Italian peninsula as well. The majority of foreign tourists used to come from France, Germany and the United Kingdom. This is also the reason why many of the residents in Rimini have German or French last names.

Today things are a little different. Now Italy has become an expensive country while long-distance flights have become much cheaper than before. For this reason Swedish, German, French, and English tourists prefer having a vacation in more remote and southern places than Rimini for the same price. On the other hand, Rimini is still a very cheap place to spend a vacation, thanks to the competition which arises among the very large number of hotels and guest houses.

Eeastern Europeans are taking advantage of this opportunity to have a vacation in a fashion-oriented city and spend a reasonable amount of money at the same time. So now it is very common to see Polish, Czech, Russian and Hungarian tourists around in Rimini. Also, Rimini has turned into a more family-oriented tourist destination even though there still is a great number of bars and areas dedicated to young crowds. Nonetheless, the number of tourists in Rimini is still increasing year after year. Fashion district areas in Riccione have now been "transferred" to the Rimini seaside area, featuring beach bars, garden-like clubs, and "Elite" private clubs. It also is quite common to see limousines parked along the beach of Marano during a typical summer Saturday night.

Rimini - Not Just a Beach But Also the European Capital of Culture

A new project has been inaugurated a few days ago in Rimini, a project called Strategic Lab, that has the main aim to involve all the creative artists, performers and the operators of the Rimini's cultural sector.

Yes, because contrarily to what most people believe, Rimini is not just one of Europe's most famous and desired vacation place for every tourist, especially young people, that every year can't wait to take advantage of the many offers for the hotels in Rimini, but it is always a place rich with culture and creativity.

This project is aimed at stimulating the participation of all the artists and the entertainers to the planning project developed by the city of Rimini with its Strategic plan, which would be surely enriched by these contributions. The project is still at the beginning, but it already seems to promise very well, with various interesting initiatives.

Rimini, that since always is famous for beaches and nightclubs, is especially considered the Italian capital of entertainment and fun, particularly in summer, when thousands of tourists crowd the numerous Rimini's hotels on the beach, ready to dive in the blue water of the Adriatic sea or to sunbathe on the beach. But this very innovative project could also highlight another aspect of this city, an aspect until now unknown even to most Rimini people.

The Strategic Lab would have a fundamental role in the stimulation of the artistic process of the city, it would be a container where every artist's new ideas, provocations and dreams could meet, confront themselves and develop. This could allow the gathering of a fundamental heritage for the city, a richness of resources that this way could link and connect with the Strategic Plan of the Rimini municipality.

With this Strategic plan all Rimini people are called to redesign the future shape of their own city. And just from the foundation of the Strategic Lab, in the scheme of the Strategic Plan, a new proposal was born, that will make everybody dream of the birth of a different city, not just a destination for fun but that also look toward culture and art as an indispensable heritage.

Culture and creativity are since always points of interest of our country, it is just to highlight these aspects that Rimini would like to candidate itself as Europe's culture capital in 2019. It seems an hazard but facts tell the contrary. From the collected data, a research from the Strategic Lab point out that Rimini has a broad-based cultural heritage. In Rimini there are a lot of acting companies, most of them at European level, but also a lot of artists, performers and intellectuals.

Of course the road is long and the aim is not easy to reach, but the municipality already started to seriously commit itself on this project. Events, shows, conventions are just some of the appointments that the numerous tourists of the many Rimini hotels and swimming pools could attend, and between a jump in the water and a sunbathe they could admire a bit of that creative and cultural heritage that since always characterizes our beautiful country. If Rimini before was already one of the more desired destinations, we can be sure that from now on it will have more and more to offer, even to the more demanding tourists, who don't satisfy themselves just lying on the beach every day or going to the disco at night.
